"No, there is no escape.
There is no heaven with a little hell in it -
no plan to retain this or that of the devil in our hearts or our pockets
Out Satan must go, every hair and feather."

hAppy nAtiONAL day!!
when my island home was sang last nite..
i wanted to cry..
therez sth abt me and crying recently.. haha..
i was juz really.. er.. moved.. if thatz what i felt anywayz..
the lyrics, simple they may be, really spoke volumes about our little country..
"a song of home, a land of peace"..
esp true when uve got family and frens overseas..
and when u wake up to news of attempted plot to bomb at least 6 flights in mid air from uk to us.. in addition to the fact that a war is going on in israel and lebanon..
can u imagine how fortunate we are to be sO safe in this country.. and how much we take it for granted..
itz bcz of this safety that our dreams can be born, and they can be "born" everyday..
yes. this is and will be the home of my family and my future..
always will it be a part of me..
cant sing it enuff..
talking abt singapore..
i might as well talk abt our singapore identity..
our identity is basically exactly the way we are..
the fact that i have smattering of malay, hokkien, cantonese, chinese, english and singlish in my speech.. that i am closer to the malay boys in class than i am to my own race.. that i play in a soccer team dominated my a race other than my own and many are kids of mixed parentage, mostly chinese-malay.. we have angmoh neighbours and one even married to an indian..
chinese stalls in sch sell rendang and the malay stalls sell chicken rice..
u see indian and chinese old folks who cant speak each otherz mother tongue communicating in malay.. (that was really cool).. my best frens include an indian muslim and a malay..
that we are so racially together in a country so culturally vibrant..
that when u meet a singaporean overseas, itz so obvious from the way the speak and act..
this is exACtly our identity.. not juz singlish.. not michael fay.. not the ban on chewing gum..
juz us, one people, one nation, one singapore..
the spirit of togetherness..
