elections06.. wat i think..
vick has written abt the elections heating up.. and so i thot i shld but my thots on the elections down too.. (:
firstly, i think the
pap IS being petty and dragging on abt the
gomez issue.. and they shld really move on to the more impt things.. even mm lee had his 2cents worth calling
gomez a liar and saying the low has lower standards of integrity than chiam..
it was until last nite that
wp had pretty much in a sense silenced pap by saying that singaporeans are smart enuff to make a choice, then it had to come out that
gomez told a couple of
pap pepz that it was all a wayang.. brilliant.. haha.. juz pulled himself deeper into the mud.. now the apology he made is void.. sad case.. and suddenly wat mm lee said abt intergrity rings thru.. this whole minority form thing is juz gonna backfire on wp if the wayang comment he said turns out to be true..
and vick, i think the releasing off video was juz a transparency thing..
opps are constantly asking for transparency anywayz.. so give it to them.. hurhur..
personally.. i think the opp is crap.. arguements so weak that i bet the
crescent debate team wld be able to tear them apart.. i cld rebutt them on the spot at home aft hearing their points at the rallies..
example1: i believe it was
sdp that wants the government to be more transparent in letting singaporeans know abt how they spent the nationz reserves..
sorry.. cant be done.. itz a secret as to how much reserves there are!! u mean u want the whole world to know how much money singapore has!! itz like inviting another country to rob u..!! the idea is simply not feasible..
example2:
sda wants more competition in the transport sector.. saying that bcz itz a monopoly, thatz why they keep having hikes and we have no choice but to pay.. he said that more supply, more competition and prices will fall.. yes thatz true.. but if u study econs, having competition is not always good..! and in singaporez case, more competition is not good.. if the price war goes overboard, the services wont earn and might not even be able to cover cost..! itz ridiculous.. ultimately, the strongest one will price the weaker ones out and wat do u get? itz back to being a monopoly.. haha.. again, idea is not feasible..
exapmle3: cant rmb which opp said this but they claim that last time, in the 70s, the
layman cld run for elections, now itz only the elites..
im like "DUH"!! at that time, there were no hong kongs, indias, chinas etc.. the world wasnt so complicated yet.. now, the world is moving so fast, u cant have a slow government.. n i say the opp is slow.. harping on issues that arent of that great an imptance..
if the layman DID run for elections and won, it wld be like the blind leading the blind!! juz look at other first world or even second world countries.. i doubt u'd find any "layman" leading the country.. the government needs to have vision.. and it thinks the current government has vision beyond measure.. vision that we layman cant see.. vision that the opp cant see either or they'll be with pap.. haha.. so the idea is oUt of the question..
example4: sdp claimed that the
government shies away from responsibility..they gave an example, last year, a lamp post collapsed and fell on a girl that killed her.. the government said that it was an accident.. but if ur window falls off itz hinges and kills someone, itz ur fault and u can be arrested and charged for murder or wadeva.. im like "err.. DUH!!!!".. u cant expect the gov to check every single lamp post in the country everyday.. but im sure u can check ur "mANy" windows everyday.. not even an idea..
example5: sdp claims that singaporeans are
poor and the
gov isnt taking care of us.. wat aBsoLute rUBBish.. i say.. go overseas and see wat poor really is.. singaporez poor may not have electricity or running water in their homes.. but at least they have one, and a hdb flat nonetheless.. the poor in the US, supposedly the most powerful country in the world, are much worse off (u juz have to watch the movie "rent" to know) , the poor in malaysia are literally on the streets, the poor in india are in slums, the poor in thailand are eating off the garbage dumps.. now tell me, whoz poor.. with all the subsidies and provisions and medisave and medicare and progress packages that the government has provided to elevate the poor to the middle class, itz impossible to say that the gov is not taking care of the poor.. with all the
comforts we enjoy, like the constant electricity and water flow, we are vERy well taken care of..
in other countries, black outs are like a norm, arent we glad we dun have that happening often in singapore? water from the taps ard the state is drinkable, even well developed countries like US and australia cant claim that.. so that throws claim out the freaking window..
example6: sdp also claims that the government is
corrupted.. hahaa.. wat a jOke.. if singapore is corrupt, i doubt we wld have appeared on the worldz least corrupt list.. and if singaporez corrupt, then wat do u call indonesia and malaysia.. and india is bollywood izzit.. haha.. seriously, sdp are crazy aNd blabbering..
are those enuff examples..?
anywayz.. another reason i dun trust the opp is bcz of their
credentials.. or the lack of it.. haha.. i mean, they have candidates who have diplomas from ite.. degrees in areas of study nOt related to running the government at all.. degree in wat? technical wat? engineer wat? operations management wat? one or two even have Os as the highest cert.. right now, im doing a dip in sw.. u cant expect me to trust an O leve cert dude to tell me wat to do with my future.. uve got to be kidding!! most singaporeans have degrees and many have masters and bachelors and stuff.. u cant expect them to trust someone of a "lower" education to lead them into the future can u?
yuchi did enlighten me that there aRE doctors in the opp.. but how many? 2 i think.. haa.. thatz juz sad.. im not putting down the less educated or anything.. sure, u can make a really good living even if u left sch prematurely n all.. but when it comes to leading a country, u need a certain level of education/intelligence to qualify dunch u agree..
the government is a countryz backbone and it has to be the strongest part of the body or the body wont function at itz potential..

pap needs opp to keep them on their toes.. but like wat pm lee said.. if there are two clear separate political parties, the two parties will juz argue and bicker abt small things in parliment rather than concentrate and focus on getting things done.. he gave the example of the taiwanese parliment.. and i tOtally agree.. more is not always better.. itz like the saying too many cooks spoil the broth.. tho the saying might not totally be in context, but u get my meaning..
the
pap might be irritating sometimes.. but they are doing a great job in keeping the country running at itz best..
theyre future plans are looking rosy and positive.. anyth else like bus fares n wat nots can be solved with the same government, dont think we need an opp to fix that..
dun fix wat aint broke rite.. so yar..
